Mini-Residency in Geriatrics

The Seniors Only Care Program and the Alzheimer’s’ Disease Research Center at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine offers a two-week mini-residency in clinical geriatrics. The goals are to expose participants to the multidisciplinary approach dealing with demented elderly patients, to broaden their perspective, and to make them aware of problems of the elderly, which lie outside of their traditional fields. Activities range from participation in the initial diagnostic evaluation, neuropsychological testing, to visits to nursing home and the Alzheimer’s Family Day Care Center. Rotations will be tailored to individual needs, including the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and clinical drug trials.

The mini-residency is available to health professionals, including physicians, residents, medical students, neuroscientists, social scientists, psychologists, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, nurses, social workers, dietitians, and pharmacists. In order to allow for individualized scheduling, a short statement of interests, goals, and background will be required two weeks before the start of the course. Courses will start the first and third Monday of each month. Enrollment is limited to two participants for each two-week residency. A one-week program may be arranged.

Cost

There is a charge of $300 to cover instructional materials; an additional $10 is required to process CME credits, if desired.
