Physician Referrals

Physicians have historically been one of the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center’s (ADRC) most valuable sources of participant referrals. A new physician outreach initiative has now been launched to spread the word about ADRC referral benefits to a wider network of community physicians in the greater San Diego area.

It is our hope that the newly developed Referral Guide for Physicians will promote collaboration between care providers and the research community through demonstration of mutual benefit to patients, providers and researchers alike. We hope to improve physician confidence in making referrals to our center by helping them recognize the ways in which their patients’ involvement in our center’s programs may complement the clinical care they can provide.

We do not replace you as health care provider, as we are not a treatment center.  Rather, we seek a cooperative relationship in which our role is to give patients feedback on their current status and an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to research investigating Alzheimer’s disease.

What we offer and what is involved in participation:

We realize that you are extremely busy and we want to make the referral process as simple as possible.  There are several ways to refer your patient for research participation. You can provide your patient with our contact information and have them call us directly, or you can click on the provided link to access the Secure Physician Referral Form.  This can be printed and either faxed or mailed to our La Jolla office when a patient indicates interest in learning more about Alzheimer’s disease or participating in research.

We are committed to being prompt and professional when contacting your patients.  We will be more than happy to give you updates regarding the patients you refer to the ADRC as long as the patient provides authorization.

Please register on our site using the secure online registry and request form for physicians.  Registering will place you on our electronic mailing list, so we can notify you when new issues of our Currents newsletter become available on this website.

Please feel free to contact us at (858) 822-4800 if you would like more information or have questions.
